The Government of Yukon is working with the City of Dawson and the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in to ensure the well-being of all residents impacted by flooding in the Klondike.
So far, 82 evacuees have registered with Emergency Health and Support Services, with many lodged in hotels and staying in private accommodations. Support to ensure evacuees have access to groceries, meals, clothing and medications has also been provided.
Teams on the front lines are still in response mode and working to mitigate ongoing threats from rising water levels and maintain critical infrastructure and supplies. As the situation stabilizes and the extent of the impacts become clearer, the Government of Yukon will support those impacted. Planning is underway for potential funding to support both households and businesses as they recover from this event.
As learned from the flooding events in 2021 and 2022, relief and recovery efforts are complex and can take considerable time. Yukon government will support affected residents, now and in the weeks and months ahead.
Details on when and how to apply for financial assistance and recovery support will be shared when available.
Every Yukoner has been moved by the images and news from the Klondike about the impacts of flooding in the region. The Government of Yukon is on site working with our partners to respond and as the waters recede and people begin the lengthy recovery process, the Government of Yukon will be there every step of the way.

Emergency Health and Support Services, also known as Emergency Support Services, provides support to Yukoners impacted by floods, fires or other emergency events and provides a people-centred approach to the emergency response.
Emergency Health and Support Services can support impacted residents with accommodations and financial assistance for food, clothing and transportation as appropriate.
Emergency Health and Support Services has been supporting Dawson since May 10, 2023.

The Government of Yukon is developing a program relevant to the needs of individuals and businesses impacted by the recent flooding.
There are immediate and confidential mental health supports available to assist Yukoners coping with the psychological aftermath of climate related events.
Rapid Access Counselling: Yukoners seeking immediate counselling can contact Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services. Phone 1-866-456-3838 or 867-456-3838 to schedule a counselling appointment within 72 hours.
Reach Out Support Line: For after-hours assistance, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Yukon Division, has established the Reach Out Support Line. Phone1-844-533-3030 and connect with trained, non-judgmental volunteers who are ready to listen. This line operates from 10 am to 2 am, 7 days a week, including holidays.
