Government of Yukon updates legislation to continue supporting sustainable park management

The Government of Yukon has made amendments to the Summary Convictions Regulation to align with the recently enacted Parks General Regulation under the Parks and Land Certainty Act.

These administrative updates support park officers in the effective and efficient implementation of the Parks and Land Certainty Act and its regulations. They also help to ensure a consistent and modern approach to managing parks and improving the user experience.

The Parks General Regulation, which came into force on April 1, outlines clear expectations for park use and supports sustainable practices that protect natural and cultural values. The amendments to the Summary Convictions Regulation introduce new enforcement tools, including 16 new ticketable offences with fines ranging from $100 to $600, to reflect the updated regulatory framework.

The Government of Yukon continues to prioritize an education and awareness-based approach to compliance. Park user’s understanding of the rules and their role in supporting sustainable park use remains central to how parks are managed.

These legislative updates are an important step in supporting the long-term sustainability of our parks. By aligning the Summary Convictions Regulation with the new Parks General Regulation, we are helping park officers implement the rules more effectively while maintaining our focus on education and public awareness. I want to thank all Yukoners and visitors for enjoying our parks responsibly. Your efforts ensure that Yukon parks remain healthy, welcoming and accessible for generations to come.
