Minister of Community Services, Richard Mostyn on the Gymnastics and Climbing facility funding announcement

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn has issued the following statement:

“Today, our government, alongside the Government of Canada, members of the Polarettes Gymnastics Club and Climb Yukon, celebrated funding towards a new gymnastics and climbing facility in Whitehorse.

“This modern facility will be capable of supporting new competitions. Along with gymnastics and climbing, the facility will host parkour, dance and bouldering and will have multipurpose rooms.

“I would like to thank the Government of Canada and its Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for contributing over $31 million to this facility. Northerners understand and support the critical role facilities like this play in fostering community health and wellbeing.

“Our government contributed more than $2.5 million to the new gymnastics and climbing facility, which our Liberal caucus committed to building in the 2021 election. Our territory has a vibrant sport and recreation community and we are proud to support projects that help this community grow. Facilities like this create spaces for people to enjoy the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles while coming together and having fun.

"A big thank you and congratulations to the Polarettes Gymnastics Club and Climb Yukon for years of work and advocacy. I admire your vision and I am proud the Yukon government could help make this facility a reality.

“I look forward to seeing all the ways in which this facility will help strengthen our community for generations to come."
