New delivery model will expand counselling services in Yukon

A new delivery model will provide Yukoners in all communities with a wider range of high-quality, accessible, and consistent counselling services. In Whitehorse, counselling services will be provided by the Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services (MWSU) branch along with two non-governmental organizations, the Canadian Mental Health Association – Yukon Division and All Genders Yukon Society. Each of these organizations has unique areas of expertise. All Genders Yukon Society is ready to provide service immediately to transgender, two-spirit, non-binary individuals and their partners, and the Canadian Mental Health Association – Yukon Division will begin providing services to the public in September.

In Yukon’s rural communities, MWSU will provide all Yukon government-funded counselling services and will operate with an expanded scope. Mental Wellness and Substance Use hubs, located in Dawson City, Watson Lake, Carmacks and Haines Junction, are designed to be adaptable, with the flexibility to provide services in a way that best meets the needs of the community and surrounding region. They will continue to provide general counselling services, and will now provide specialist services such as family, grief, relationship and marriage counselling.
