A new Youth Mental Wellness Grant is now available for youth-serving organizations in the Yukon through the Youth Directorate and Aboriginal Relations. $300,000 will be provided to four local youth organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Yukon, BYTE – Empowering Youth Society, the Heart of Riverdale Community Centre and the Youth of Today Society.
In addition, $100,000 in funding is available for other local youth-serving organizations across the Yukon for smaller projects valued between $10,000 and $20,000. The grant will help cover eligible programing expenses for initiatives that address mental wellness issues for youth that are not already funded through other sources.
The Youth Mental Wellness Grant will help fund projects that are rooted in the 40 Developmental Assets Model, which have been adapted for the Yukon by incorporating the wisdom of Yukon Elders and rural Yukon First Nation communities to reflect how each asset is defined within those cultural contexts.
The deadline to apply for the Youth Mental Wellness Grant is September 15, 2022. Applications should be submitted to the Youth Directorate by emailing gord.kurzynski@yukon.ca and chris.nash@yukon.ca
We are continuing to support local youth organizations that provide valuable programs and services to young Yukoners. The 40 Developmental Assets Model addresses substance use and other mental health and wellness components while giving youth new avenues to develop healthy relationships and build valuable skills. I encourage local organizations to apply for the new Youth Mental Wellness Grant and I look forward to seeing how these projects will create a positive impact in our community.
