Nominations Open for Council of the Federation Literacy Award
Nominations are being accepted for the 2019 Council of the Federation Literacy Award in recognition of Yukoners who demonstrate outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in adult literacy.
The award honours educators, practitioners, volunteers, First Nations programs, community organizations and businesses that are helping Yukon adults develop the literacy skills they need to succeed. Award areas include family, health, financial, workplace and community literacy.
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, May 31, 2019.
Literacy enables individuals to participate in all areas of society and engage fully with our communities. Across Yukon, innovative literacy leadership happens every day, often behind the scenes. I encourage Yukoners to celebrate these contributions by putting nominations forward for this prestigious award.
Premier Sandy Silver
Last year’s winner was Isabelle Salesse for her contribution to French language literacy.
The Council of the Federation was established in 2003 to enable Canada’s 13 Premiers to work collaboratively to strengthen the Canadian federation.
Yukon recipients have been recognized in the past for literacy in Yukon First Nations languages, for contributions to literacy in French, for leadership in literacy organizations and for being learners who have become literate as adults.
