The Recoding Futures coding training for Yukon First Nations youth has kicked off. Part one of the course will include four weeks of web programming and, for students who opt in, part two will cover more specific programming language for three months.
This training course is the result of a partnership between the Government of Yukon, Yukon University, Yukon First Nations Education Directorate and ComIT, with the support of Google. Participants in the program will be provided with free coding training and the opportunity to seek an entry-level technology position upon graduation from the program.

This coding training program will help Yukon First Nation youth develop skills that will advance their careers and fill positions in the Yukon that require unique skill sets. Working along with great partners such as the Government of Yukon, the Yukon First Nations Education Directorate and Yukon University we are tackling the development of local tech talent by providing accessible training that directly benefits the students in their job search process, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.

24 students have been confirmed for the start of the program, with more possibly joining soon after.
This virtual program is completely free for participants. Program eligibility includes:
- Self-identify as Indigenous;
- Be 15 years old or above;
- Have the ability to study part-time (8 hrs/week);
- Possess basic digital literacy skills; and
- Have access to a computer and internet.
