Today, the Government of Yukon launched the 2023 Flood Recovery Funding Program for the Klondike Valley. The program provides financial assistance to Yukoners for uninsured damages to their property and possessions caused by recent flooding in the Klondike Valley.
Eligible residents, farmers and business owners can access funding through three streams:
- Housing: Financial assistance for eligible damage and losses up to a maximum of $250,000.
- Agriculture: Financial assistance for eligible damage costs up to a maximum of $500,000.
- Small Business: Financial assistance for eligible damage costs up to a maximum of $500,000.
The program is intended to compensate individuals for flood-related damages and to re-establish or maintain the viability of working farms and small businesses.
Application forms are available now at www.Yukon.ca/flood-funds. Forms will also be available at the Yukon Housing Corporation’s Dawson office starting Tuesday, July 4. The deadline for applications is October 3, 2023.
This year’s ice jam and freshet flooding on the Klondike River devastated people’s homes and livelihoods. The 2023 Flood Recovery Funding Program will help Klondike Valley residents recover from the losses caused by this natural disaster.

This flood caused more severe damage than flooding in previous years. It has been a very challenging time for residents in the Klondike Valley and the Flood Recovery Funding Program will help provide relief as the community continues to build back. Klondike residents came together to help each other during the recent significant flooding and I was proud of the collaborative response from neighbours, the Yukon government, the City of Dawson and the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government. To learn more, stop by the Yukon Housing office at 105-351 Turner Street in Dawson City. Program staff will be available on July 5 and 6 between 9 am and 3pm to answer questions and provide copies of funding guidelines and application forms for all streams.
This funding program was developed in response to 2023 flooding in the Klondike Valley, particularly in the Rock Creek, Henderson Corner and Dredge Pond subdivisions.
The funding program has three streams. The housing stream is administered by the Yukon Housing Corporation. The agriculture stream is administered by Energy, Mines and Resources. The small business stream is administered by Economic Development. You can apply to multiple streams.
Those eligible for funding include the following groups: Homeowners and renters who experienced damage to their residence, possessions or outbuildings; farmers and agriculture producers; and small business owners.
