Premier Mike Pemberton has issued the following statement:
“On July 1, we mark 158 years since Confederation – a time to gather, reflect and celebrate the country we call home. Canada Day invites us to look back on where we’ve come from, to consider who we are today and to think about the kind of future we want to shape together.
“In the Yukon, we know that our strength lies in the relationships we share – drawing on the deep knowledge and leadership of Yukon First Nations who have shaped these lands for generations and welcoming the energy, ideas and traditions that newcomers contribute to the life of our communities. Together, we make up the fabric of a diverse and caring country – one where cooperation, compassion and connection matter.
“Canada Day is also a time to recognize and honour the values that bring us together – respect, resilience, inclusivity and the ongoing work of reconciliation. These aren’t just words – they’re values lived out every day in our homes, in our schools, in our governments and businesses, and in the way we show up for each other when it counts.
“I encourage all Yukoners to take part in local Canada Day events. These gatherings – big or small – are the beating heart of our communities. Whether it’s a pancake breakfast, a music performance, a kids’ activity or a neighbourhood barbecue, these moments bring us closer together and remind us what it means to belong to a strong and vibrant country.
“Whether you’re out enjoying the midnight sun, spending time with family and friends, or simply soaking in the beauty of the land, I hope you’ll also take a moment to reflect on what Canada means to you – and how we can all contribute to a strong and prosperous Yukon for future generations.
“As always, stay safe out there. Be careful on the roads, safe on the water and fire smart as we enjoy the outdoors. Let’s take care of each other and the land we all share.
“Happy Canada Day, Yukon!”
