Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“Tonight at sundown, Jewish communities in the Yukon, across Canada and around the world will come together to celebrate Purim, which marks the survival of the Jewish people against persecution in the ancient Persian Empire, as told in the Book of Esther.
“Purim is a joyful time of celebration, where families and friends gather to share festive meals, read the Purim story and help those in need. It is a time to reflect on the themes of resilience, courage and the power of unity in the face of adversity.
“The Yukon is home to a small but vibrant Jewish community, represented by the Jewish Cultural Society of Yukon. Our territory is strengthened by its diversity and we are grateful for the many cultural traditions that enrich our communities.
“As Jewish communities celebrate the triumph of joy over fear, we recognize the important contributions they continue to make to the Yukon and to Canada. Let us all take this opportunity to embrace the spirit of Purim – choosing kindness, standing against discrimination and working together for a more inclusive future.
“To all those celebrating, I wish you laughter, happiness and blessings.
“Chag Purim Sameach!”
