Statement from Premier Pillai on the First Nation Na-Cho Nyäk Dun election

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Dawna Hope on her recent election as Chief for the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun. 

“I would also like to extend my congratulations to the elected Deputy Chief Roberta Hager and Councillors Edward Brown, Helaina Moses, Geri-Lee Buyck and Paul Profeit.

“I commend your commitment and dedication to serving your community.

“The Government of Yukon values our government-to-government relationship with the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun. I look forward to working with the newly elected Chief and Council to advance our shared priorities including addressing the Substance Use Health Emergency and community safety.

“Chief Hope brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in Final and Self-Government Agreements and land and resource management from her many previous roles on boards and as a senior official within the First Nation Na-Cho Nyäk Dun. I am confident that the First Nation will benefit under Chief Hope’s leadership.

“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to former Chief Simon Mervyn for his leadership and service to the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun.

“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I thank him for his contributions and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
