This is a joint news release between the Government of Yukon and the Yukon Historical & Museums Association.
The Government of Yukon and the Yukon Historical & Museums Association (YHMA) are pleased to announce the recipients of the Yukon 125 Fund.
A total of 62 projects across 13 Yukon communities have been selected to receive financial support of up to $7,500 each. These funds will be allocated towards initiatives, events and activities that commemorate the Yukon's 125th anniversary since joining confederation, as well as to pay tribute to Yukon communities, heritage and cultures.
Project examples include:
- rejuvenating the Keno City Campground;
- restoration of the Yukon Theatre’s neon sign;
- a street mural reflecting on the impacts of colonialism;
- a historical horticultural brochure with a seed list and planting schedule; and
- milestone anniversaries of the Tagish Nation Dancers and the Dawson Firefighters’ Association.

In this noteworthy year for the Yukon, communities are ready to come together to celebrate and reckon with our past to build a stronger future. We encourage Yukoners to participate in Yukon 125 events and seek out projects to learn more about the Yukon’s history and heritage and consider their place moving forward to create a future we are proud of. YHMA enjoyed learning about the variety of organizations and the unique projects they put forward and was honoured to help make these diverse projects happen around the territory.

Established in 1977, the Yukon Historical & Museums Association is a registered charity that works to strengthen heritage in the Yukon through leadership, advocacy and education.
The Yukon joined Canadian Confederation on June 13, 1898. This year marks the 125th anniversary of the territory.
The Yukon government allocated a total of $400,000 in funding for community-driven initiatives to commemorate the occasion. Applicants were eligible for up to $7,500 per initiative.
The fund offered two application streams: one for First Nation governments and municipalities, which automatically qualified for funding; the other to fund initiatives from community organizations, clubs, boards and committees.
The Yukon 125 Prize, announced earlier this year, is a separate initiative that aims to support unique, big, bold ideas that will leave a lasting legacy.
