This is a joint Yukon Forum news release.
Leaders representing Yukon First Nations, the Council of Yukon First Nations and the Government of Yukon held their first Yukon Forum of 2026.
Yukon Forum leaders discussed next steps towards developing a strategic plan to guide joint work on issues of deep importance to communities across the territory.
Leaders also exchanged perspectives on modernizing the minerals legislation and Shäw Kwä’ą / Health and Wellness Yukon. The Yukon Forum was also an opportunity to strategize on an approach for engaging with the Government of Canada at an upcoming Intergovernmental Forum.
Thank you to fellow leaders for the open and meaningful discussions held today at Yukon Forum. The Government of Yukon is committed to working with Yukon First Nations in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration. We recognize that by respectfully working together, we can achieve more to meet the needs and improve the quality of life for all Yukon communities. I look forward to working with leaders over the next months on the next steps to achieving our shared goals.
Our discussions today reinforced our shared responsibility to work together in ways that respect Yukon First Nations’ rights and the lived realities of our communities. Strong partnerships must lead to real outcomes, particularly on issues like health system transformation and mineral development. We remain committed to moving this work forward together.
