Yukon government continues to deliver on housing initiatives

Through investments in the 2026–27 budget and the proposed 2027–28 fall capital budget, the Yukon government continues to provide stable, affordable and quality housing that creates opportunity and builds strong communities across the Yukon.

Through strategic investments and partnerships, Yukon Housing Corporation is expanding housing supply, improving affordability and increasing housing options for Yukoners.

The proposed 2027–28 fall capital budget includes an investment of $26.2 million for Yukon Housing Corporation. This includes $12.7 million to advance community and employee housing projects in the communities of Burwash Landing, Haines Junction, Mayo, Ross River and Teslin. This also includes $6.7 million for the Housing Initiatives Fund and $6.8 million for maintaining and renewing Yukon Housing Corporation’s portfolio to ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of tenants.

The corporation also continues to deliver housing programs and supports, including:

  • the Rent-Geared-to-Income program, which keeps rent affordable and predictable, providing stability for Yukoners who face challenges in the private market;
  • the Canada-Yukon Housing Benefit program, which helps low-to-moderate income households facing housing affordability pressures to remain in private rental housing – the program also helps individuals experiencing gender-based violence access and maintain safe housing in the private rental market;
  • loan and grant programs, which support emergency and other home repairs and improves access to homeownership;
  • the Housing Initiatives Fund, which increases the supply of affordable housing across the territory by supporting partner-led housing developments – Yukon Housing Corporation is working on program improvements and preparing to launch the next intake; and
  • the Build Canada Homes program, which Yukon Housing Corporation is working with Build Canada Homes to finalize a multi-year partnership that would support the construction of a portfolio of affordable housing units over the next five years.

Alongside efforts to increase housing supply, Yukon Housing Corporation is advancing initiatives to improve housing outcomes for Yukoners. This includes reviewing seniors' housing policies to better support aging in place and enhancing employee housing options to help attract and retain essential staff.

We know housing remains one of the biggest and most complex challenges facing Yukoners. That is why we continue to invest in programs, partnerships and new housing initiatives that increase supply, improve affordability and help meet the diverse housing needs of communities across the Yukon.
