Yukon government encourages athletes to try out for 2024 Arctic Winter Games

Yukon athletes have a track record of achieving success at the regional, national, and international levels and in just over five months, 355 members of Team Yukon will be travelling to the Mat-Su Borough of Alaska to participate in the 2024 Arctic Winter Games. These games will be held March 10 to 16, 2024, and will give Yukon athletes an opportunity to compete against their northern peers in 20 different sports.

To become a member of Team Yukon, athletes must participate in a sport trial. Trials for the 2024 Arctic Winter Games begin in October and go on until January. For more information on trials, people can follow Team Yukon on Facebook or visit the Team Yukon website (Team Yukon Arctic Winter Games).

The Yukon government encourages all young athletes to learn more about trial details and for all Yukoners to attend their favourite sports trial.

The Arctic Winter Games are held every two years and celebrate athletic competition, cultural exchange and social interaction among the circumpolar north. Team Yukon also sends Yukon artists or performers to participate in the cultural program; more information on that process will be shared on the Team Yukon website in the next few weeks.

Participating in the Arctic Winter Games offers the opportunity to compete against top athletes from the circumpolar North, explore diverse cultures and forge new friendships. The journey begins with attending a Team Yukon trial. I urge all eligible athletes to take advantage of this chance and extend my best wishes for their tryouts. I look forward to cheering you on in Mat-Su. Go Yukon!

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

The Arctic Winter Games are a valuable part of athlete development and inspiring youth in sport. These Games have served as a launch point for many Yukoners with high-level sporting aspirations and the highwater mark for some athletes’ sporting careers. The Arctic Winter Games are an incredible experience and we encourage everyone to tryout.
