Yukon motor vehicles and carrier compliance services streamlined through new online platform

On March 1, 2022, the Government of Yukon will modernize motor vehicle and commercial carrier services for Yukoners with new online services, eliminating licence plate registration decals.

This suite of new, driver-focused online services will include an improved process for online registration renewal. Yukoners will now be able to print their own registration card and, because licence plate decals no longer exist, the renewal will be effective immediately.

Other new services include:

  • online driver abstract requests; and,
  • digital applications for a library of commercial carrier permits.

Yukoners will still have the option to access these services in person. Vehicle owners are responsible for keeping their registration up to date and having a copy of their registration card in their vehicle.

By providing new online services and eliminating licence plate registration decals, we are saving Yukoners and commercial carriers both valuable time and money while continuing to ensure our roads remain safe for everyone. The Yukon government will continue to look for ways to digitize services, streamline processes and make our systems more environmentally friendly.

Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke

Quick facts
  • Eliminating licence plate decals will reduce red tape, improve and modernize the delivery of registry services and bring the Yukon in line with at least five other Canadian jurisdictions.

  • Users requesting their driver’s abstract can also print their document instantly. Commercial carriers who apply for a permit online are able to check its approval status and print the permit once approved.

  • Driver abstract and commercial permit services have never been offered digitally before. The previous process was paper-heavy and labour intensive.
