Yukon shares mineral potential on a global stage

Minister Pillai and officials from the departments of Energy, Mines and Resources and Economic Development were in Ontario this week promoting Yukon as a world class destination for mining investment and exploration at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual conference. Held from March 4–7 in Toronto, the conference is considered the largest event of its kind in the world.

Local businesses, geologists, mining associations, and Government of Yukon officials participated in several presentations and panel discussions in an effort to advance Yukon’s mining industry. The Yukon exhibition booth at the trade show showcased mining and exploration projects and offered Yukon companies and organizations a location to present to attendees, including the Yukon First Nation Chamber of Commerce.

Minister Pillai spoke about mining investment opportunities in Yukon at the China Mining Investment Symposium hosted by the Canada China Chamber of Commerce, which focused on global mining development and mining investment opportunities in Canada.  Minister Pillai also met with Government of India Minister of Mines Narendra Singh Tomar to discuss mutual exchange of best practices and reciprocal investments in mining.

Energy, Mines and Resources Deputy Minister Stephen Mills highlighted Yukon as a world class destination for mining investment and moderated a panel discussion about mining in Yukon hosted by BMC Minerals.

Government of Yukon officials presented at the 5th annual Invest in Canada’s North Seminar hosted by the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency. The seminar focused on exploration and mining potential across the North. Officials also met with companies active in Yukon and attended the PDAC Board of Directors Reception and Luncheon.

As part of the conference, the Yukon Mining Alliance hosted an Invest Yukon Reception to promote the Yukon mining sector in partnership with Yukon’s mining industry. Yukon mineral exploration companies also presented at the Canada-China Mining Investment Forum hosted by the Government of Canada and China, including Western Copper and Gold Corp., Nickel Creek Platinum and Fireweed Zinc.

The world knows Yukon is at the forefront of mineral potential. The annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention is a unique opportunity to connect with the international mining and investment community, highlight Yukon’s mineral potential and share our collaborative approach to resource development.
