Yukon-wide travel advisory update: Visitation to the Yukon is safe and welcome, although travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and research local conditions

Issued at 2:30 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2022

Visitors are welcome in the Yukon and leisure travel is permitted, although travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and research local conditions.

Anyone travelling in the territory should carefully consider their plans and make informed decisions for their own safety and the safety of emergency responders and residents in impacted areas. The Yukon is vast, and while there are fires in several regions of the territory, many Yukon communities are accessible and welcoming tourists.

The Government of Yukon continues to respond to emergencies across the territory. Cooler weather and road re-openings are welcome developments, but some Yukon communities continue to be impacted by wildfires and high water levels. When travelling by road, people may experience delays depending on the destination. Anyone travelling by road should bring essential items like food, water, medications, fuel, chargers, etc.

Do your research

When travelling in the Yukon, it is strongly recommended to research in advance to understand the latestrisk levels where you plan to visit. Always get your information from trusted sources.

Be prepared

Emergency responders and community residents work long hours to keep Yukoners and visitors safe. If you travel, here’s how you can help:

  • Expect delays on roadways and bring extra food and water.
  • Follow all instructions from officials and do not interfere with emergency response operations.
  • Respect any closures and advisories communities have in place.
  • Do not travel to areas under evacuation alerts or expect to find supplies in every community.
  • Bring everything you need, like groceries, fuel, and chargers, for the duration of your travel.
