Introducing Indigenous Boundaries layers

By Kate.Powell
June 9, 2026

The following changes have now been completed on the GeoYukon First Nations map service.

New layers

The changes include the addition of new Indigenous Boundaries layers that represent divisions between geographic regions associated with Indigenous governments.

To improve usability, the Indigenous Boundaries - 250k and Indigenous Boundaries - 1M layers have been separated into two categories on GeoYukon: Treaties and Agreements, and Claims and Assertions.

Layers scheduled for retirement

The following layers have been marked as legacy in both GeoYukon and ArcGIS Online and are scheduled to be retired on October 30, 2026:

About the new layers

Indigenous Boundaries - Claims and Assertions

This spatial data layer depicts regions or sub-regions associated with Indigenous governments or groups that assert Aboriginal rights in Yukon, represented as an "asserted traditional territory", "territory" or "claim" area that may be shared publicly.

The description or names of these boundaries, or the regions represented, may change without notice. This spatial data layer has been compiled from a number of sources and is for general information purposes only. It is not intended to create or define legal rights and may not include all regions where Aboriginal rights are claimed.

Indigenous Boundaries - Treaties and Agreements

This spatial data layer depicts regions or sub-regions associated with Indigenous governments or groups that have established treaty rights in Yukon. These are represented as "Traditional Territory", "Settlement Region", "Lands", or specific areas protected under treaties or agreements.

This spatial data layer has been compiled from a number of sources and is for general information purposes only. It is not intended to create or define legal rights.

Indigenous Boundaries - Core Areas

This spatial data layer depicts regions defined as "core areas" and incorporated as part of the Kluane First Nation Final Agreement (2003). These regions relate to Kluane First Nation and White River First Nation.

This spatial data layer has been compiled from a number of sources and is for general information purposes only. It is not intended to create or define legal rights.
