Wildland Fire responding to the Rudolph Gulch fire (MA-004)

Wildland Fire is responding to a wildfire 14 km north of the Minto Lake recreation site.

The Rudolph Gulch fire (MA-004) is an out of control fire in the strategic zone. It is estimated at around 25 hectares and will be visible from the Silver Trail and Village of Mayo.

The fire was identified by the Ferry Hill lookout tower this afternoon. Airtankers were deployed but initial containment was unsuccessful due to conditions. Currently, three fire crews are assigned and being supported by two helicopters and heavy equipment.

Firefighters will be prioritizing public safety and notifying members of the public nearby. Structure protection equipment will be deployed where needed as soon as possible.

The Emergency Measures Organization has put out an evacuation alert for the nearby area south of the McQuesten River. Non-residents are asked to avoid the area while the alert is active.

Flying drones is illegal within 9.3 kilometres (5 nautical miles) of active wildfires.
