Apply for a rebate for a new zero-emission vehicle

We offer a rebate on the purchase of a new zero-emission vehicle.

Rebate amount

$5,000 for a new:

  • battery-electric;
  • hydrogen fuel cell; or
  • long-range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Long-range vehicles have a battery capacity of 15 kilowatt-hours or greater.

$3,000 for a new short-range plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Short-range vehicles have a battery capacity of less than 15 kilowatt-hours.

If you have a lease agreement, your rebate will be pro-rated on the length of the lease. You'll receive the full rebate if your lease is 3 years or more.

Eligible vehicles

Vehicles must:

  • have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price below $55,000;
  • be registered in Yukon; and
  • be purchased by a Yukon resident.

You can purchase your vehicle in Yukon or import it.

Eligible purchase dates

You can apply for the rebate if you purchased your vehicle on November 14, 2019, or later.

Eligible applicants

Yukon residents are eligible for 2 rebates during the lifetime of the program.

Organizations and businesses registered in Yukon are eligible for up to 10 rebates per calendar year. This includes First Nation governments and municipal governments.

At the time of purchase

You may get the rebate automatically when you purchase your vehicle from a local dealership. If you're a Yukon dealer, you can download the vendor application form.

After you purchase

If you did not receive the rebate at the dealership, you can apply directly to us.

  1. Complete the rebate application form.
  2. Include:
    • your bill of sale or financing agreement showing you did not receive a rebate;
    • information on the vehicle trim and manufacturer’s suggested retail price;
    • proof of vehicle registration in Yukon;
    • a copy of the New Vehicle Information Statement provided by the dealership; and
  3. Submit your rebate package to the Energy Branch.

  4. You'll receive a rebate cheque in the mail within 12 weeks.

Facts on zero-emission vehicles

  • Battery-electric vehicles can travel from 190 to over 400 kilometres per charge.
  • Charging your vehicle at home costs about $40 per month for around 20,000 kilometres of use per year.
  • Zero-emission vehicles have fewer parts and require less maintenance on average than conventional cars.
  • Despite reduced range in colder temperatures, zero-emission vehicles are suitable for daily winter driving. They may offer better traction and torque than a similar conventional vehicle in winter conditions.
  • There is a variety of options and ranges of zero-emission vehicles, including a minivan.
  • We're investing in increasing the number of fast chargers across the territory.
