Get involved in Fire Prevention Week

The week of October 4 to 10, 2026 is Fire Prevention Week across North America.

Fire Prevention Week is a good time to learn about home fire safety. This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower". The campaign is about how important everyday charging habits are for reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.

Charge your devices safely

  • Use the cord charger that came with your device and that is approved by the manufacturer.
  • Charge your devices on hard, flat surfaces like a table, desk or bare floor.
  • Unplug fully charged devices.
  • Charge tools and large items outside when possible.
  • Stop using your device if it feels hot or starts to swell.
  • Keep your devices in sight when you're charging them, especially on planes.
