Top 10 finalists for 125 Prize to be celebrated

As part of the celebrations and commemorative events marking the 125th anniversary of the Yukon becoming a territory of Canada, Yukoners were invited to apply for the 125 Prize. The 125 Prize seeks unique, big, bold ideas in areas like physical achievements, cultural pursuits or challenges that inspire Yukoners.

As part of the application process for the 125 Prize, shortlisted participants were asked to provide a two-minute video showcasing their idea and highlighting the ways in which it will build a legacy for the Yukon’s next 125 years.

Members of the public are invited to join the top 10 finalists at 7 pm on Thursday, October 19 at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre for a public screening of each finalist's two-minute video pitch.

From 9 am on October 20 until midnight on November 3, 2023, finalist videos can also be viewed at: yukon.ca/yukon-125-prize-videos. Yukoners are encouraged to watch the videos and celebrate these exciting projects.

The selection of the projects to ultimately receive the 125 Prize will be determined by a committee consisting of Yukoners from across the territory.

Successful 125 Prize recipients will be announced in December 2023. A total of $250,000 in funding is available. The successful recipients will share their journey with the rest of the Yukon and the world through social media.

The range of ideas and initiatives that Yukoners have put forward is truly incredible and highlights the creativity and heart that we are known for. I encourage all Yukoners to check out the videos and discover the amazing ideas that have made it to the finals. Thanks to everyone who applied to this special fund, which commemorates the Yukon's 125th anniversary of joining the Confederation. It will not be an easy task for the selection committee to determine the recipients!

– Minister of Tourism and Culture John Streicker
