What was this engagement about?

We want to improve our democracy and we wanted your input to make sure we head in the right direction.

In fall 2018 we asked what issues are most important to you when it comes to how Yukoners make their voices heard, the system we use to elect territorial governments, and how territorial political parties and elected officials work.

In spring 2019 we will strike an independent commission on electoral reform. We will ask it to work on the priorities Yukoners have identified and to make recommendations to us in a final report in late fall 2019.

What was this engagement about?

Guided by the Supreme Court of Canada decision, the five parties worked collaboratively to complete, approve and implement a Regional Land Use Plan for the Peel Watershed that reflects the objectives of the Final Agreements. The first step is this final round of community engagement, which had two objectives:

  1. All Yukoners and stakeholders will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the Final Recommended Plan and suggest possible minor modifications to improve the Plan given changing circumstances.
  2. The affected governments will receive informed advice on changing circumstances in the Peel watershed and suggestions for minor modifications focussed on improving and operationalizing the final recommended plan.

After this consultation was complete, the parties consulted with each other. The goal of this consultation was to achieve a shared position on the plan. Then the parties worked together to approve and implement a Final Regional Land Use Plan for the Peel Watershed.

The Government of Yukon, Yukon First Nations, transboundary Indigenous groups and local municipalities are working to update the way we address climate change, energy and building a green economy.

We are developing a new strategy that will make our communities more resilient, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and plan for Yukon’s energy needs and economic future.

We asked Yukoners about their priorities on addressing climate change, meeting our energy needs, and developing a green economy.

A news release announced the public engagement process. In Whitehorse, we held a kickoff event at the Canada Games Centre to raise awareness of the public engagement and encourage people to complete the online survey.

EngageYukon.ca, social media, newspaper, radio, and TV ads, community posters and direct outreach through phone and letters were all used to inform the public and stakeholders of the engagement.

What was this engagement about?

The Condominium Act, 2015 was passed by the Yukon Legislature in May 2015. Like the Land Titles Act, 2015, it was developed with the participation of representatives from First Nation governments, real estate lawyers, surveyors, the business community, condominium owners, the federal surveyor general’s branch and the Government of Yukon. Public consultation made a major contribution to the Act and strengthened its consumer protection components.

The Government of Yukon, in continued partnership with the Land Titles Stakeholder Advisory Committee and the Drafting Advisory Group, is now preparing draft regulations to accompany the Condominium Act, 2015. We sought Yukoners’ input on the proposed provisions in respect of:

Read the Guide for Condominium Owners and Buyers for a general overview of the proposed provisions to be included in the regulations.

The Government of Yukon has also released the draft regulations

Regulating Off-Road Vehicles in Yukon

This engagement is now closed.

Check below for where to find results.

What was this engagement about?

The Government of Yukon has been working to develop regulations for off-road vehicle use. We completed a public engagement in late winter and early spring of 2019, proposing a 3-part approach. This includes:

a. developing a regulation that would apply to ORV use on public land;
b. incorporating the ability to ticket and fine; and
c. requiring Yukoners to register ORVs for use in the backcountry.

We invited everyone to review and provide feedback on our proposed approach. This approach was informed by input over the years from:

  • First Nations;
  • Stakeholders; and
  • the public

We also took the opportunity to meet with representatives from:

  • First Nations;
  • Renewable Resource Councils;
  • special interest and stakeholder groups; and
  • individuals.

We also received individual emails and letters. All this feedback helped us get a thorough sense of Yukoner’s’ perspectives on this issue.
