How are Yukoners really doing right now? In these challenging times, we need more than just economic data to help answer that question.

The Community Wellbeing Survey will provide a territory-wide snapshot of Yukoners’ wellbeing and provide the needed population-level data to support informed decision making to best meet the unique and changing needs of Yukoners. The COVID-specific questions at the start of the survey will inform next steps in the pandemic response.

Knowledge economy is defined as the usage of knowledge to create goods and services.  Technology growth and innovation is a form of knowledge economy.  It contributes to sustainable economic growth and diversification, fostering a robust and resilient economy with social and wealth benefits for all citizens.

Yukon Mineral Development Strategy

What was this engagement about? 

The Government of Yukon and the 11 self-governing First Nations are committed to the long-term responsible management of Yukon’s mineral resources, and to supporting a healthy mining industry that adheres to high environmental and social standards.

To help achieve this, they collectively appointed an independent panel.  The independent panel hosted a nine-month public engagement process.

Input was collected through regional online open houses, focus groups, a toll-free line, over 90+ meetings, two surveys, written submissions, a two-day session with elders, and more.

The panel used the extensive input collected from this process to develop the Yukon Mineral Development Strategy and Recommendations. 

Missing persons legislation

What was this engagement about? 

The Government of Yukon tabled Bill No. 13, the Missing Persons Act, on October 3, 2017 – which will enhance the RCMP’s ability to investigate missing persons cases in the territory.

Time is of the essence when a loved one is missing. The RCMP are currently limited in their ability to investigate reports of missing persons when there is no evidence of criminal activity.

Missing persons legislation could allow the RCMP to more quickly and efficiently take on missing persons investigations. 

Amendments to the Pounds Act

What was this engagement about? 

The Pounds Act gives the Yukon government the ability to appoint a person to operate a pound in order to contain feral or stray animals. Consultation is complete and the new Act has been proclaimed.

What was this engagement about? 

The Government of Yukon is developing a 10-Year Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Action Plan. This Plan will focus on awareness, prevention, and supporting people with FASD and their families to reach their full potential. We are engaging with First Nations, community representatives and many stakeholders to develop this plan.

The public engagement process was led by an FASD Interagency Advisory Committee, made up of government and non-government service providers, First Nations partners, caregivers and an individual with FASD. It ran from May 2017 through March 2018.

Cannabis legalization

What was this engagement about? 

There were three phases of public engagement on the legalization of cannabis.

Phase one

Phase one consisted of a public engagement survey, which was available online from August 10 to September 30, 2017. The results of the survey were released on November 9 in a document called What We Heard.

Phase two

The Government of Yukon released its Proposed Framework for Legalized Cannabis on November 20, 2017. Phase two of the engagement invited Yukoners to provide feedback on the proposed framework by December 20.

Phase three

On January 11, 2018 the Government of Yukon released a draft legislative summary of its Cannabis Control and Regulation Act. Phase three of the engagement invited Yukoners to provide feedback on the summary by February 12, 2018.

Yukon Financial Advisory Panel 2017

What was this engagement about? 

The Government of Yukon is facing financial challenges. Over the past ten years, revenue growth of 1.7 per cent a year has not kept pace with spending growth of 2.5 per cent a year. To support building a healthy financial future, the Government of Yukon assembled an independent Financial Advisory Panel to provide the government with options for future financial planning.

Starting Tuesday, September 12, these draft options will be shared with Yukoners. You are invited to participate in the discussion about the pros, cons, and considerations of pursuing the various options.

Progressive raffles for charitable organizations
