Turn roadside trash into treasure! Eligible non-profits can participate in the annual Spring Litter Clean-up Campaign to earn money and give back to their community.
The 2025 clean-up takes place from May 1 to 31, with sections assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who can apply?
Non-profit organizations registered and based in the Yukon can apply. This includes:
- sports teams
- art groups
- schools
- church groups
- service clubs
- community associations
Non-profit organizations must be registered and in good standing with Corporate Affairs. You can check the status of your organization on the Yukon Corporate Online Registry and learn how to incorporate a society on Yukon.ca.
Each clean-up group must have:
- an adult supervisor with a vehicle
- at least 5 volunteers
Clean-up sections

Include the section number for the highway section in the application form.
To suggest cleaning up sections of the highway that are not listed, email your suggestion to [email protected].
Equipment
You do not need your own equipment for clean-up. We’ll provide signage, gloves and high-visibility vests.
Payment
Your non-profit will receive $300 for each highway section your group cleans. Groups cleaning multiple sections will receive $300 for each section cleaned.

After you apply
After you submit your application, we’ll review it and contact you if we have questions. You’ll hear back within 2 weeks after you submit your form.
We’ll send you:
- your assigned clean-up section
- the date of your clean-up
- an assignment letter to waive tipping fees when dropping off the collected litter
After clean-up
Dropping off litter
After clean-up, your group supervisor must drop off the collected litter at a designated waste or recycling facility.
Your group can keep any refundables picked up.
Whitehorse
- The group supervisor will need to drop off litter at the Waste Management Facility.
- Sort the waste. The on-site compliance officer will be monitoring your loads.
- Bring the assignment letter to waive the tipping fees.
Communities
- Drop off litter at your local transfer station.
- Bring the assignment letter so the Department of Highways and Public Works can cover the tipping fee.

Send your invoice after the clean-up to receive payment.
