Tipping fee holiday

During  regular facility hours from May 20 to 24, 2021, the Government of Yukon is introducing a tipping fee holiday at the following solid waste facilities:

  • Deep Creek;
  • Marsh Lake;
  • Mount Lorne;
  • Tagish; and
  • Carcross.

It will be free for self-hauled, pickup loads and small utility trailers to dispose of:

  • residential waste;
  • wooden furniture;
  • mattresses and box springs;
  • construction and demolition waste;
  • free store items; and
  • all other organic waste.

Tipping fees will still apply for vehicles, scrap metals, appliances, and commercial loads.

When will fees be introduced?

Tipping fees will come into effect on August 1, 2020.

The following waste facilities will be the first to get tipping fees:

  • Tagish
  • Deep Creek
  • Mount Lorne
  • Carcross
  • Marsh Lake

All facilities except Beaver Creek and Old Crow will have tipping fees by April 2021. We plan to introduce tipping fees at Beaver Creek and Old Crow by 2022.

Everyone will pay a similar cost for the same service.

How much will fees cost?

Tipping fees will be based on fees at the Whitehorse dump. For example:

Household garbage $1 per bag
Bulky items, such as a desk or couch $10 per item
Large appliances without refrigerant, such as dishwashers, stoves, driers $15 per item
Large appliances with refrigerant, such as fridges, freezers or air conditioners $40 per item
Free store items, excluding clothing $1 per bag
