Residential Builders Lottery pilot now open

The Government of Yukon has opened the Residential Builders Lottery for Yukon home builders with the support of the Yukon Contractors Association. This pilot program delivers on a government commitment and is designed to ensure Yukon builders have direct access to building lots.

The lottery is for seven lots in Whistle Bend in Whitehorse – two multi-residential and five residential – and is open to construction businesses of all sizes with a proven record of building homes. Construction businesses will be screened by the Yukon Contractors Association to confirm their eligibility prior to applying at the Government of Yukon's Land Management Branch.

Applicants must have completed construction of at least one single-detached or multi-residential dwelling within two years prior to the lottery opening date. Applicants are not required to be members of the Yukon Contractors Association to apply.

Interested builders can apply on the Yukon Contractors Association website at yukoncontractors.ca/landlottery/.

This new initiative is a key step in delivering on our commitment to reform the land lottery system to recognize that home builders provide the vast majority of housing. We want to ensure home builders have access to lots without having to resort to proxies. This removes red tape so we can immediately offer new opportunities for Yukon home builders. This new pilot program highlights our ability to find solutions and get homes built quicker.

Minister for Energy, Mines and Resources Ted Laking

Historically, Yukon home builders have been unable to enter Yukon government land lotteries, which resulted in the companies that build the majority of the homes in the Yukon having to jump through hoops to get the lots they needed to run their business. This pilot project is a great first step in ensuring that lots end up in the hands of the people who actually build our houses while simultaneously making it easier for Yukon home builders to get the land they require to successfully grow their business.
