The Government of Yukon is offering affordable seasonal leases for farmers in the Gentian Lane area of Golden Horn, outside of Whitehorse. These leases are an ideal option for agricultural start-ups to gain access to low-cost land and increase local food production.
Yukoners can lease up to 500 square metres of land for market gardens for $50. Leases run from spring to mid-October.
There are five plots in total. Three plots are still available for leasing for the 2026 growing season. Prospective food producers interested in applying can learn more at Yukon.ca/apply-grazing-land.
Yukoners are encouraged to watch for promotion of the next intake in late winter or early spring 2027.
The Government of Yukon is also working to release land in Mount Lorne, Ibex Valley and Mayo for food production and livestock pasture in the next year.
Agricultural leases offer a great opportunity for Yukoners interested in food production or experimenting with new varieties and growing methods. We are committed to expanding opportunities for Yukoners to access agricultural land through lease or sale, supporting food security and self-sufficiency.
