Yukon government releases MMIWG2S+ annual report and hears direction from families on next steps

The 2024–25 annual report on the implementation of the Yukon’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit+ People Strategy is now available, providing an update on progress made during the second year of the strategy’s 15-year plan and drawing on information reported by 27 partners.

The full report and an Update for Families document, which summarizes the report, were shared at the 2026 MMIWG2S+ Family Gathering on August 4 and 5. Approximately 60 family members and survivors came together at Helen’s Fish Camp at Lake Laberge on Ta’an Kwäch’än Council's Traditional Territory. Participants heard updates, asked questions, shared perspectives and talked about what needs to happen next.

A central focus of the gathering was governance and accountability. Families and survivors provided direction on a proposed governance structure emphasizing that families must remain at the centre of decision making. Their input will help strengthen accountability and carry work forward. The annual report, Update for Families, previous reports and related materials are available at https://yukon.ca/en/missing-murdered-indigenous-women-girls-2-spirit-people.
