The Government of Yukon is modernizing its procurement policy by increasing direct award thresholds and introducing regular inflation adjustments to ensure purchasing limits reflect today’s costs.
Direct award thresholds are the maximum dollar amounts at which the Government of Yukon can purchase goods, services or construction without a competitive tender process or recognized procurement exception. Increasing thresholds will reduce administrative requirements for lower-value purchases, improve the efficiency of government procurement and make it easier for businesses to pursue government contracting opportunities.
Effective September 1, 2026, the new thresholds for direct award tenders are:
- goods at $18,000 (up from $10,000);
- services at $75,000 (up from $50,000); and
- construction at $100,000 (up from $50,000).
The Government of Yukon will adjust the direct award thresholds for inflation every two years. The first of these increases will be implemented on January 1, 2028, aligning with updates to procurement thresholds under the Canada Free Trade Agreement.
Government staff have received guidance to support the consistent implementation of the updated thresholds.
These changes are part of the Government of Yukon's ongoing work to modernize procurement while maintaining fair, transparent and accountable purchasing practices. Our government is committed to making procurement more practical, timely and responsive. Increasing direct award thresholds also creates opportunities for Yukon businesses.
