Statement from Minister Kent welcoming students and staff back to school

Minister of Education Scott Kent has issued the following statement:

“As a new school year begins across the Yukon, whether you have already returned, are returning today or are returning in the coming days, I want to extend a warm welcome to all students, families, educators and school staff. The start of a new school year brings opportunities for learning, growth, connection and new possibilities.

“Education in the Yukon is shaped by the strength of our communities and the dedication of the people who support student success every day. I want to extend my appreciation to the educators, school leaders, support staff and school teams who create engaging learning spaces where students can thrive.

“We remain committed to ensuring Yukon students have the support they need to learn, grow and succeed. This includes creating safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environments, supporting student wellbeing and working to ensure schools have the staff and resources they need.

“I also want to thank Yukon parents, guardians and families for the important role they play in supporting student success. 

"I welcome school councils and boards to the new school year and thank them for their service to Yukoners. 

"I encourage all Yukoners to help keep our school communities safe by slowing down in school zones, staying alert near bus stops and crosswalks and remembering to stop for school buses when their lights are flashing.

“To all Yukon students, families and school staff, I wish you a positive and rewarding school year.”
