An exhibition featuring 18 of 22 new works donated to the Yukon Permanent Art Collection by longtime Yukon educator and art collector Ron Carr is now open in the main foyer of the Jim Smith Building in Whitehorse.
On display from July through October, the exhibition features work from artists such as Peter Aliknak, Ted Harrison, Maurice Haycock, Jim Logan, Rie Munoz, Mary Pudlat, Jim Robb, William Sinclair and Keith Wolfe Smarch.
The donation enriches the Yukon Permanent Art Collection, expanding representation of some well-known northern artists and introducing new ones.
After the exhibition, the new works of art will be displayed on a rotating basis throughout the Yukon.
The Yukon Permanent Art Collection reflects the creativity, history and diverse perspectives that shape our territory. We are grateful to Ron Carr for this generous donation, which strengthens the collection and ensures more Yukoners will have the opportunity to experience these remarkable works of art.

The Yukon Permanent Art Collection was established in 1981 and is part of the Yukon government’s commitment to support artistic development and excellence and to encourage participation in, and appreciation of, visual arts in the Yukon.

The collection holds over 575 works of art by over 300 artists and works can be seen in over 40 publicly accessible locations throughout the Yukon.

Typically works are acquired through an annual call for submissions, but in certain instances donations to the Yukon Permanent Art Collection are proposed to the Friends of the Yukon Permanent Art Collection board and reviewed through an arm's-length adjudication process.
