Statement from Minister Benoit on the Nisutlin Bay Bridge replacement project

Minister of Highways and Public Works Linda Benoit has issued the following statement:

“Following further engineering assessment, a permanent solution has been identified to address the impacts of soil condition concerns encountered near the new bridge abutments, and a remediation design is being developed.

“The remediation design, currently in its conceptual phase, includes the addition of new spans on both ends of the bridge, with the construction of new abutments further back, while maintaining the highway profile as originally designed.

“A request for qualifications for the remediation work and the remainder of the construction works needed to complete the new bridge will be posted on Yukon Bids and Tenders in the coming weeks.

“We recognize the significance of this project for Teslin residents and all corridor users. As design and procurement work continues, we are committed to keeping the community informed. We look forward to providing a project update and engaging with residents at a community open house in Teslin later this year.

“The existing Nisutlin Bay Bridge remains safe, operational and open to traffic. Regular inspections and maintenance will continue to ensure the bridge remains safe and reliable until the new bridge is in service.”
