The Government of Yukon has completed the first round of its new Residential Builders Lottery, with seven lots in Whistle Bend sold directly to Yukon homebuilders.
Launched in June in partnership with the Yukon Contractors Association, the pilot gives local builders a dedicated way to access land to build new homes. Previously, builders could only enter government land lotteries as individuals rather than through their businesses.
This initiative supports the government’s mandate commitment to improves access to land for Yukoners, housing and development. The Government of Yukon will continue working with the Yukon Contractors Association to build on the pilot and make more lots available directly to homebuilders. The goal is to reduce barriers for local home builders and get more houses built.
The local home building industry is essential to addressing the territory's housing needs and they need access to land to do it. We committed to reforming the land lottery system, cutting red tape and creating more opportunities for builders. This first builders lottery is a good start and we will keep looking for practical ways to get more homes built for Yukoners.
The builders lottery pilot project was a great first step in reducing red tape and making it easier for homebuilders to access the lots they need to build houses. We look forward to working with the Yukon government to expand the builders lottery so we can build houses more efficiently and affordably.
