There have been four deaths suspected to be linked to toxic drugs reported to the Yukon Coroner Services between August 18 and 25, 2026.
The closeness of these fatalities and reports from community partners and Emergency Medical Services of an increase in substance use overdoses has raised real concern about the illicit drug supply available in Whitehorse.
The illicit drug supply remains highly toxic and unpredictable.
Our government is addressing the challenges of ongoing opioid and substance use by expanding access to treatment options, providing prevention initiatives where most needed and creating effective enforcement mechanisms.

Yukoners can visit substanceuseservices.ca to learn more about available supports and services, including counselling, harm reduction services, treatment programs, naloxone training, outreach supports and connections to community organizations across the territory.
Support is available for individuals, families and loved ones at different stages of their journey, whether they are seeking treatment, looking to reduce harms associated with substance use or simply wanting to talk to someone.
Yukoners continue to feel the impact of these tragic and preventable deaths. Prevention, treatment and enforcement must work together to support Yukoners struggling with these issues. Our government remains committed to improving public safety and helping people heal.
The Yukon is again seeing heartbreaking deaths linked to toxic drug supply. The loss of these lives is preventable. It is highly concerning to see the cases rising and to hear that the substances appear to have become more complex and more toxic than previously seen. I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the individuals who have died.
