Yukon government endorses A Place to Be framework to help prevent and reduce homelessness

The Government of Yukon has endorsed A Place to Be: A Framework for Community Action to End Homelessness, supporting a shared, community-led approach to preventing and reducing homelessness across the territory.

By endorsing the framework, the Yukon government is supporting its overall vision and collaborative approach, continuing to participate in the Community Advisory Board and work with Yukon First Nations, municipalities and community partners to establish homelessness reduction goals.

The Yukon government has made significant investments in housing and homelessness initiatives, including support for projects such as the Hearth, 408 Alexander supportive housing, the Council of Yukon First Nations Family Preservation Wellness Centre and new Yukon Housing Corporation developments. These initiatives are helping to increase housing options and strengthen supports for Yukoners experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We are working with Yukon First Nations, municipalities, service providers and community organizations to help more Yukoners access stable housing and the supports they need.

Minister of Health and Social Services Brad Cathers

Every Yukoner deserves a safe, stable place to live. We will continue to work with our partners to improve housing stability, expand affordable housing options and reduce homelessness.

Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Scott Kent

This framework allows us to build a strong foundation aimed at enhancing the safety, health and overall wellbeing of our community. I am proud that our government is a partner in this framework and we look forward to our departments working together with First Nations and community partners to improve community safety and resilience.

Minister of Justice Laura Lang
