Government of Yukon releases the Connected Health Strategy

The Government of Yukon has released its new Connected Health Strategy, a multi-year framework to modernize and better connect health care systems across the territory.

The strategy outlines a more connected, accessible and people-centred health care system supported by secure data, modern electronic infrastructure and improved access to services and information. It reflects input from health care providers, Yukon First Nations, patients, Yukon Hospitals and the Yukon Medical Association.

This strategy aligns with the government’s commitment to modernize territory infrastructure with a patient-centred approach while ensuring that health information follows patients wherever they receive care. It identifies four key goals:

  • Enable a connected health care system
  • Increase Yukoners’ access to health information and services
  • Support health care providers
  • Strengthen electronic health infrastructure

The Connected Health Strategy will guide future work to improve how health information is shared across care settings, expand access to modern, technology-driven services and reduce administrative burden for health care providers. The strategy also emphasizes strong privacy protections, secure data sharing and ongoing collaboration with Yukon First Nations and health system partners.

Examples of connected health in the Yukon include electronic medical records, access to immunization records, remote patient monitoring and AI-supported tools that help streamline referrals and clinical documentation. Planning is also underway for the implementation of the electronic medical record system in Yukon community health centres, with rollout expected to begin in December 2026.

The strategy recognizes that building a connected health system is a long-term effort that will require continued collaboration, planning and investment. The next phase of work will focus on implementation planning, governance, infrastructure, training and support.

The Connected Health Strategy represents a step toward building a more connected and accessible health care system for Yukoners. By improving how information is shared and used, we can support better care, reduce administrative burden for providers and make it easier for Yukoners to access services and information.

Minister of Health and Social Services Brad Cathers
