Order a marriage certificate

You can order a marriage certificate for a marriage that took place in the Yukon.

A marriage certificate is an official document that confirms:

• who was married;
• when the marriage took place; and
• where the marriage took place.

It also confirms that the marriage is registered with the Office of the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

You may need a marriage certificate to:

• update your records with government agencies, financial institutions or other organizations; or
• support the use of an assumed surname after marriage.

The Office of the Registrar of Vital Statistics can only issue marriage certificates for marriages that occurred in the Yukon. If you were married in another province or territory, contact the vital statistics office where the marriage took place.

Who can apply

Anyone who has knowledge of the person to whom the certificate relates can apply for a marriage certificate. You demonstrate this knowledge through the information you provide on the application.

1. Complete the application for certificate, certified copy or search.
2. Submit your application and payment:
   • by mail; or
   • in person.

Fees

A marriage certificate costs $10.

We accept:

• cash;
• debit;
• Visa;
• Mastercard;
• American Express; and
• money orders.

If you apply for a certificate or search and no record is found, we retain the $10 fee to cover administrative costs.

Processing times

Processing can take up to 10 business days.

Receive your certificate

When you apply, choose whether you want to:

• pick up your certificate in person; or
• receive it by registered mail.

If you choose to pick up your certificate, we’ll call you when it’s ready.

If you choose registered mail, we’ll mail the certificate to the address provided on your application.
