We use the teachers salary grid to determine teacher salaries.
The Teacher Qualification Board sets the salary category and level for all new teachers and administrators. Level refers to years of experience. The board uses the teacher salary grid.
For the board to review your pay rate, new teachers and administrators must provide:
- official transcripts for all post-secondary education completed, sent directly from your education provider to the department; and
- a Verification of Teaching Experience Form from each of your school boards, sent directly from the school board to the department.
Your teaching experience must have:
- required a Bachelor of Education or equivalent; and
- occurred at an accredited school that taught a provincially or territorially assigned curriculum.

You can apply to the Teacher Qualification Board to review your pay rate if you:
- are a Yukon teacher or administrator; and
- have completed coursework accredited by a recognized accreditation body; or
- gained teaching experience elsewhere while on leave.
Find out if a program will raise your pay rate
Before enroling, you can find out if the program you want to take will qualify you for a higher pay rate. Follow these steps:
- Put together a written request to confirm that the program is recognized and acceptable. Including the:
- name of the university;
- full name of the program;
- area of specialization;
- program and course or project description; and
- website where this information is available.
- Submit your request.

Review your experience level
If you’ve gained teaching experience elsewhere while on leave, you can apply to the Teacher Qualification Board to review your experience level:
- Complete a Verification of Teacher Experience Form.
- Submit this form.

The Teacher Qualification Board makes the final decision about your placement and salary. The board meets twice a year.
