Yukoners take great pride in the territory’s universal, accessible, and publicly-funded healthcare system. Yukon health care workers face significant challenges delivering the level of care that patients deserve. The Government of Canada and the Government of Yukon are partnering to deliver immediate and collaborative action to improve healthcare services for all Yukoners.

Minister of Environment Nils Clarke has issued the following statement:

“This month is Plastic Free July, a global initiative built on sharing plastic free resources and solutions, with an overall vision of seeing a world free of plastic waste. For the month of July, we are encouraging Yukoners to take part and do what we can to reduce dependence on plastics.

The Government of Yukon has launched the second intake of the Home Ownership Loan Program to support Yukoners with buying or building a home.

The program was launched in 2020 and was initially open for rural properties only. Changes were made in April 2023 to include applications from Whitehorse residents to help address the growing need for safe, affordable and stable housing.

The Home Ownership Loan Program can be combined with Good Energy rebates on renovations and upgrades to make homes more energy efficient.

Yukoners are invited to mark the Yukon’s 125th anniversary of joining the Confederation of Canada by applying for the new 125 Prize. As Yukoners look ahead to the next 125 years of the territory, three to five exceptional Yukon-based projects will be selected to receive up to $125,000 to achieve something extraordinary.

The Government of Yukon has released the What We Heard report for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) following public and stakeholder engagement on waste diversion and the future of recycling in the territory.

Today, the Government of Yukon launched the 2023 Flood Recovery Funding Program for the Klondike Valley. The program provides financial assistance to Yukoners for uninsured damages to their property and possessions caused by recent flooding in the Klondike Valley.

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn has issued the following statement:

“Today, our government, alongside the Government of Canada, members of the Polarettes Gymnastics Club and Climb Yukon, celebrated funding towards a new gymnastics and climbing facility in Whitehorse.

“This modern facility will be capable of supporting new competitions. Along with gymnastics and climbing, the facility will host parkour, dance and bouldering and will have multipurpose rooms.

Continuing with his commitment to engage bilaterally with municipal and First Nations leadership about the issues important to their communities, Premier Ranj Pillai met with the Mayor and councillors from the Village of Haines Junction and leadership from Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) during a recent trip to Haines Junction (Dakwäkäda).
