Sewage disposal systems in the Yukon

If your property is not connected to the city sewer, you may need to install an on-site sewage system. Here's a brief guide on how to get started with your permit application.

Who can design the septic system?

The homeowner, a contractor or an engineering consultant can design the septic system. Our design specifications give details on how to design and maintain these systems.

If your design is different from our guidelines it must be engineered by a professional.

You must get your permit before installing any part of the sewage disposal system.

Do you need a permit?

You'll need a sewage disposal system permit if your property is:

  • not connected to the city sewer system; or
  • not authorized under the Yukon Waters Act.
