Minister of Justice Laura Lang has provided the 2026–28 policing priorities to the Commanding Officer of the Yukon RCMP Lindsay Ellis.
These priorities have been developed and informed by input from the Yukon Police Council, engagement with First Nations governments, stakeholders and community partners and analysis by the Department of Justice. They reflect the evolving public safety context in the Yukon, an effort to reduce the impacts of crime and the shared goals that policing services remain fair, effective and trusted.
The Minister of Justice has set the following policing priorities.
- Enhancing public safety and community confidence.
- Targeted policing of organized crime, drug trafficking and serious offenders.
- Policing in communities through strong relationships.
The Yukon government remains committed to establishing policing priorities that reflect the values and the priorities of Yukoners as we work toward a safer territory for families, businesses and communities.
These policing priorities reflect the minister’s mandate commitment to protect frontline services that help keep Yukon communities safe and healthy, and target police resources where they are needed most.
This year’s policing priorities focus on advancing our efforts to reduce the impacts of crime. Reinforcing community-oriented policing, relationship-based strategies, public safety and coordinated responses will improve outcomes for successful arrests as well victims, vulnerable individuals and communities across Yukon. I am thankful for the strong working relationship our government has with the Yukon RCMP as we collaborate to achieve these goals.
The Yukon Policing Priorities for 2026-2028 reflect the public safety concerns the RCMP has identified across the territory and align closely with the work our employees are doing every day. Through intelligence-led policing, strong community partnerships, and a continued focus on organized crime, drug trafficking, and community safety, Yukon RCMP remains committed to delivering responsive, professional policing services that help keep Yukoners safe.
