We’ve just launched a service that gives Yukoners another way to apply to the government’s Good Energy rebates and other energy efficiency programs. People can now apply for an energy rebate online and upload their receipt and all supporting documents via this service.

Designing a service for our users

Through our initial research, we identified the following user groups.

  • People who know exactly what they want. These people may be repeat users. They know a specific energy rebate exists and they want to go straight to it.
  • People who want to make home improvements but do not know where to start. These users want to improve their home’s energy efficiency, but they do not know what to tackle first. These users may be eligible for 1 or multiple rebates that will help inform their decision.
  • People who are curious to see what energy rebates are available to Yukoners. These users may or may not be aware that the government has a variety of energy rebates and they want to see what’s out there.

People who know exactly what they want

We’ve created a few ways for these users to apply for a specific energy rebate. When they access the particular rebate on Yukon.ca’s Good Energy website, there will be an option to complete the application online. If they choose this option, the link will take them to the new online service.

People who want to improve their home, but do not know where to start

Some users may not know where to begin when deciding on improvements to make to increase their home’s energy efficiency and save money.

People in this user group can start by conducting a virtual home energy assessment. The energy assessment report the service generates:

  • identifies optimal improvement options for their homes; and
  • lets them know which Good Energy rebates apply.

People who are curious to see what energy rebates are available

For the user group who like to explore or browse, we’ve listed all of the services on Yukon.ca’s Good Energy campaign site. Once users access the new service, they can see all of the government’s available energy rebates on 1 page.

Improving how we process applications

Users can now check in to see the status of their applications. The government approves and processes applications within the service. For example, if we have a question about an application or supporting document, we can contact the applicant and they can provide clarification within the service. This allows us to keep the application moving forward efficiently and to get the rebate payment to the applicant sooner.

Next steps

Now that we’ve launched the service, we want to learn more about how people use it. We’ll be collecting their feedback to inform the next round of improvements we’ll make to the service.

We are also planning to add more rebates and expand the service to include businesses and the commercial sector.
