We’ve wrapped an election and the snow is almost gone. Since our last project update in February, we’ve continued to deliver more services. In the coming weeks we’ll be adding a batch of new projects as we plan for the year ahead.

This update includes the latest on our:

  • websites;
  • open government; and
  • online services.

Websites

GameSense website

We’re working with Lotteries Yukon to develop a website with information on gambling, responsible gaming, making informed decisions and resources for support. We plan to launch this website in late June.

Indicators of Yukon Gender Equality website

For this project, we’ll be shutting down the existing Indicators of Yukon Gender Equality website and making the content available elsewhere. We’re in the early planning stages now.

Migrating our remaining boutique websites and applications

A few years ago, we began a massive content migration project. The 1st part was to migrate department pages off the old content management system called RedDot. Now we’re coming up with a plan to address the remaining 350 websites and applications. So far we’ve decommissioned 80 properties. This work will continue this fiscal year.

Yukon.ca

As we closed out this past fiscal year, we added more feature enhancements to Yukon.ca. These included:

  • improvements to how we manage translations, including updating some missing translations and improving the consistency between English and French pages;
  • updates to the Events, Topics and Campground pages content types; and
  • how menus display on campaign sites.

We’re now planning the work for Yukon.ca Phase 8. We’re looking at website feedback, analytics and meeting with departments so we can prioritize work that will continue to improve the user experience on Yukon.ca.

New content type: blogs

We’ve had this blog running since 2016. In that time we learned a lot about how people use it. As the 1st part of our content migration project wrapped up, it was time to address the need to expand this content type. Departments, corporations and their program areas can now use a blog to share information with the public.

Geomatics and digital mapping blog

This spring we launched the Geomatics and digital mapping blog. This blog is where we share information about digital mapping and our services. If you follow this blog, you'll find updates about new data, changes to existing services, project updates and training opportunities.

Yukon Water Board website

We’re working to build a new website for the Yukon Water Board. This will be an update to their existing website. Improvements will include:

  • updating the design to meet the our brand standards;
  • rewriting the content to follow our style guide; and
  • improving how documents are shared with Water Board members and staff.

Open government

In planning to accommodate updates to the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, we’ve rebranded the open data portal as open government. The open government portal is a single point of access for all open content we publish. The portal now houses open data and open information. Visit the open government portal.

Open data

As part of the migration to open government, we’ve cleaned up the open data portal and removed any resources that are not open data. Now when you visit open data, you’ll see improvements to the visibility of our data resources. Visit the open data portal.

Open information

The open information portal includes reports and publications. The portal serves the function of the open access register and supports our commitment to disclose information before people ask for it. This year we have plans to increase the volume and breadth of open access content. Visit the open information portal.

Online services

We’re working with departments to deliver the following online services.

511

The new 511 Advanced Traveller Information Management System will replace our outdated 511 service. This new system will increase efficiencies in data management, and provide a safety-driven, user-friendly interface to the public. The 511 Yukon solution is an integral part of the territory’s future long-term transportation strategy.

We’ve awarded the contract and we’re in the final negotiations to complete the statement of work and scope of the project. The security threat risk assessment (STRA) and the privacy impact assessment (PIA) are underway.

COVID-19 related online services

We’re currently developing and improving the following COVID-19 online services:

  • Book a COVID-19 test appointment (available in English, French and American Sign Language);
  • Get a COVID-19 test result;
  • Book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment service;
  • Provide feedback on your COVID-19 vaccination;
  • Submit travel documents before entering Yukon during COVID 19; and
  • SMS notification services for transiting travellers and self-isolation reminders.

Digital Marketplace

The Digital Marketplace is an online tool for low-cost, fixed-scope software development procurement targeting the Yukon developer community. This tool aims to replace a number of the current direct awards with an open process. We expect to launch it in the coming months.

Donate to Yukon Archives

This service helps the public to donate materials to Yukon Archives. We’re continuing our work to improve the donation form and workflow to better align with Yukon Archives’ processes. Find out about donating to Yukon Archives.

Election results and electoral district information

Leading up to the territorial election in April, we added live election results features to the Elections Yukon website. Before election day we conducted stress and high-volume load testing on these new features. The tests were successful and the site ran well below the tested levels the evening of the election. There were zero outages or slow-response periods reported.

Energy-efficiency rebate service

This service will allow Yukoners to apply for an energy-efficiency rebate online and conduct an energy audit of their home. We expect this service to launch later this spring.

Family Mediation service

This will be an online service to help families start working on their mediation agreement so they can get it as complete as possible before engaging a mediator. We expect to issue an RFP to purchase the service in the coming months.

First Nations Business Registry

The Yukon First Nations Business Registry is a listing of Yukon First Nations businesses. Business owners can add their business details to the service and the public can filter the listings by First Nation, Traditional Territory or location. Visit the Yukon First Nations Business Registry.

Improve online access to all government services

We’re continuing our work to provide citizens with improved access to our online services. This will be a single online portal giving users access to:

  • online services;
  • information about services; and
  • statements of how services share personal information.

Regulations for the new ATIPP Act will guide this implementation, and we’re working on launching this service in the coming months.

Kindergarten pre-registration

We’re looking at rebuilding the current online kindergarten registration system. We hope to have this improved service live for the next student intake.

Legislative drafting and publishing (Laws)

This will be a new system for drafting and publishing Government of Yukon legislation. Work is continuing on the legislative drafting process and we plan to launch a new legislation website in late June.

Liquor licensing, inspections and permitting

This is an online service for users and people who run facilities where liquor is served or sold. The public and businesses will be able to apply for liquor licenses online. The government will be able to process and enforce licenses. We expect to launch this service in May.

Lotteries Yukon digital service transformation

We’re developing a system that lets the public apply online for funding from Yukon Lotteries. Staff use this service to manage these applications and their funding programs. We’re finalizing content and completing assessments and testing. We expect to launch this service this summer.

Pay rural property tax online

We’re making improvements to the existing online service to pay rural property tax. This includes updating the back-end technologies we use to process payments. We’re planning to launch this service in mid-May.

Professional and regulatory licensing system

This service will allow users to apply for professional licences online, or view a list of licensed Yukon professionals. This project will take a phased approach over the next 2.5 years.

Register a child for the school bus

This online service will allow parents and guardians to register a child to take a school bus. We expect this service to improve:

  • the registration process;
  • routing and scheduling; and
  • how riders receive bus status updates.

We expect the negotiated RFP will go out later this spring.

Student Financial Assistance

This is an online system that will allow students to apply for financial assistance online. Staff will use the system to:

  • process applications;
  • provide funding to students; and
  • generate reports.

We kicked off development work in April, and plan to launch this service by the end of 2021.

Service modernization

We’ve begun making short-term improvements to modernize how we manage government forms and other services. This will include internal processes, such as tracking project status and budgets. We’ll also make external-facing updates to how government forms are requested, updated, tracked and completed.

We’ve just worked through pre-discovery, discovery, and development of a value proposition identifying the main stakeholders. Over the upcoming months, we’ll be looking for ways to streamline forms design and delivery, especially for forms that previously were on paper or provided as fillable PDFs.

Updating the Department of Environment's licensing platform (PHA stabilization)

We’re continuing to make improvements to the department’s licensing platform. Goals for this year include implementing a new public facing site, enabling external vendor access to the platform for improved counter service, and updating the security and privacy reviews for the platform.

YuDriv system replacement

This is a 3-year project to build a single system to replace multiple existing systems the Government of Yukon, City of Whitehorse Bylaw and the RCMP use. We’re currently working on technology planning for the public-facing pieces of this service.
