Apply for funding to help cover heating costs for eligible seniors

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the grant.

• Are 65 years of age, or older in 2026.
• Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Have lived in the Yukon for a minimum of 12 months, including being in the Yukon for 183 days of the year. At least 3 months of the 183 days must be during the winter months (defined as January, February, March, October, November and December).

Yukoners on an extended vacation during the first 6 months of the year must delay submitting their application. For example, if you leave the territory for the entire month of February, you cannot apply until November 1. You would need January, March and October to count as winter months.

Applications are accepted between July 1 and December 31, 2026. Incomplete applications, or applications received after December 31 will not be accepted.

Your application must include supporting documents for your income and housing situation.

Income documentation

Include a photocopy of your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) notice of assessment as proof of annual income.

• Include the pages that show your name and line 23600.
• Black out your social insurance number at the top of the notice and all other lines, except for line 23600.
• Include the notice of assessment for your spouse, even if they’re under the age of 65.

If you own your home

Include one of the following:

• a copy of your 2026 Property Assessment Notice;
• either the green Government of Yukon form or a property assessment statement stamped by Community Services; or
• a municipal water and sewer bill if it clearly identifies your physical address.

If you rent or lease your home

Include a Certificate of Tenancy form prepared and signed by your landlord.

Applications are accepted from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

Do not apply by email

We strongly encourage you to apply online, as email is not a secure way to send personal information. Use the Pioneer Utility Grant email address to ask questions about the program.

We’ll accept emailed applications for the 2026 program. Starting in 2027, we’ll no longer accept applications by email. We encourage you to apply online for the 2026 program so you're familiar with the process before this change takes effect.

When you can expect to receive the payment

If your application package is complete, you can expect your pioneer utility grant within 30 business days.
