    The public is welcome to come to the library to read magazines and journals or search for articles.

    The library subscribes to several online databases that you can use for natural resources related research.

    You can access the databases from the computers at the Energy, Mines and Resources Library.
    In person: Room 335, Elijah Smith Building, 300 Main Street in Whitehorse. We are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    What databases are available?

    Arctic & Antarctic Regions

    The world’s largest collection of international polar databases. Citations and abstracts provide access to valuable research on cold regions. It spans from the year 1800 and earlier to the present.

    Environment Complete

    Contains citations from more than 2,200 journals and full text for more than 680 journals in the areas of:

    • agriculture;
    • ecosystem ecology;
    • renewable energy;
    • natural resources;
    • marine and freshwater science;
    • geography;
    • pollution and waste management;
    • environmental technology;
    • environmental law;
    • public policy;
    • social impacts; and
    • urban planning.

    Fish, Fisheries & Aquatic Biodiversity Worldwide

    Coverage includes over 1 million citations and abstracts dating from the 1970s to the present. Combines databases on all facets of:

    • ichthyology;
    • fisheries;
    • aquaculture; and
    • aquatic biology.

    GeoRef and GeoScienceWorld

    Allows you to search geoscience literature citations from 1785 to the present and access nearly 50 full-text journals on the topics of:

    • geography;
    • geochronology;
    • commodities;
    • rocks and minerals;
    • sediments;
    • soils;
    • fossils; and
    • elements and isotopes.

    Wildlife & Ecology Studies Worldwide

    The world’s largest index to literature on wild mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Coverage includes more than 1.6 million bibliographic records, many of which include abstracts. Major topics include:

    • studies of individual species;
    • habitat types;
    • hunting;
    • economics;
    • wildlife behavior;
    • management techniques;
    • diseases;
    • ecotourism;
    • zoology; and
    • taxonomy.
  4. Borrow natural resources books and articles from libraries outside of Yukon

    If you are looking for a book or scientific article that you can’t find in the Energy, Mines and Resources Library, you can ask us for an interlibrary loan. We will request the item you need from a library outside of Yukon. You can then borrow it from us just like other library books or journals.

    You can request an interlibrary loan in 3 ways:

    • In person: Room 335, 300 Main Street, Whitehorse. The library is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    This service is free of charge. Requests must be for research-related material and are limited to 10 per month.
