What we’re working on: summer and fall 2022 update

This year we blinked and summer was gone! We quite busy this summer and as a result, we missed our usual quarterly blog post. So we’ve rolled that into our fall 2022 update.

For those of you new to our blog, eServices for Citizens write these quarterly updates so you can see what the Government of Yukon is up to in terms of producing public-facing digital services. We cover updates for websites, citizen engagement, Open government and transactional services.

If you follow this blog you’ll see some projects appear, disappear from and often reappear in these updates. The reason for this is that:

  • eServices might not have an active role in the project;
  • the team might not be available to provide an update;
  • the project is on hold; or
  • based on the findings from Discovery, the project team decides not to proceed with the work. You can find out more about Discovery in the government’s Digital Service Delivery Guide.

If you have any questions about these projects you can comment below or email eservices@yukon.ca.

Websites

Indicators of Yukon Gender Equality website

The project team is working on building all of the new charts and graphs and they expect to have them published to Yukon.ca later this fall.

Our Clean Future website

The new Our Clean Future website will be 1 of the ways the government will communicate progress on its commitments to reduce negative impacts on the climate. It supports the government’s Our Clean Future Strategy.

We’ll be working with a vendor and the client team to develop and integrate the database and expect to launch the website later this fall.

Socio-economic web portal (SEWP) website

We launched the new Yukon community statistics website earlier this summer. This replaced an existing, outdated website. You can access it through Yukon.ca.

Yukon early leaning educators website

This website launched this summer. It’s designed specifically for Yukon early learning educators as a place where they can learn about training and professional development opportunities. The project team is collecting user feedback and are looking to add more features to the site this year. You can access it through Yukon.ca.

Yukon.ca

Phase 9 enhancements to Yukon.ca were completed in the spring of this year. Since our last update, we’ve continued to address a variety of bugs and style elements. These updates help to better the user experience, and make the site more consistent.

Some most recent updates include:

  • adding click-to-call toll-free phone numbers to department pages to make contacting programs staff easier;
  • addressing a header navigation issue that was affecting campaign pages;
  • adding more Topics pages to collect related content together, making it easier to find;
  • addressing translation and style inconsistencies;
  • improving the content manager and administration process for staff; and
  • addressing RSS issues for blog subscriptions.

Get involved in user research and testing

We usually have a Yukon.ca user research project underway so we can continually learn from your experience and correct any barriers you encounter. If you want to participate, email eservices@yukon.ca.

Yukon immunize website

We’re working to support the redesign and enhancement of the existing Yukon immunize website. Work is nearly done, and the new website is planned for launch this fall.

Yukon Water Board website

We’re working to support the redesign and enhancement of the existing Yukon Water Board website. Work is nearly done, and the new website is planned for launch this fall.

Citizen engagement

This summer we selected a new citizen engagement platform called PlaceSpeak. On August 29 we published the first engagement on the new platform for mining and municipalities. You can still access the government’s engagements on Yukon.ca.

Transactional services

We’re working with departments to deliver the following digital services.

Citizen-centred service delivery (previously called Service modernization)

We’ve been working on a project to make short-term improvements to modernize how we manage government forms and other services. This includes internal processes, such as tracking project status and budgets. During upcoming months, we will be investigating external-facing updates to how government forms are requested, updated, tracked and completed.

There are many thousands of forms and we’d like to get them online when feasible, and also modernize the work flows associated with forms. Protecting privacy, eliminating redundancy, increasing efficiency and improving accuracy are some of our goals for this work.

Improve online access to all government services

We’re continuing our work to provide citizens with a single online portal giving them access to the government’s:

  • online services;
  • information about services; and
  • statements of how services share personal information.

Planning for this new program has gone well, and we are aiming for launch later this year.

Midwifery service

The midwifery clinic is now operating in the Yukon and we developed this new digital service to help with the intake process for new clients. Visit the campaign website.

Online Marketplace

The Online Marketplace will be an inventory from the government’s authorized suppliers into 1 online storefront where government personnel can make purchases.

Implementation is ongoing, and testing is happening now. A full launch is being scheduled for early in the new calendar year.

Property assessment and taxation IT modernization

The government is looking at options to replace out-dated IT systems related to property assessment and taxation. The project team has awarded a contract for this work and planning is underway.

Request a health record

This new digital service allows people to request their health records and information. The team has built a prototype and completed a Beta Service Maturity Assessment. Testing is completed and the team expects to launch this fall.

School bus scheduling and routing (Formerly called Register a child for the school bus)

Parents and guardians might not have noticed that the school bus scheduling software used by the government got a big upgrade over the summer. This new software made it easier to schedule buses, and brought some new tools to the people who schedule, drive, and manage school bus ridership.

More updates, including some public-facing features, are being considered for the fall 2023 school year.

Student Financial Assistance

This is a major update to the online system that allows students to apply for financial assistance. We’re working with vendors to get the new system developed will be testing during upcoming months. This system is current scheduled to be in place during spring 2023.

Yukon sustainable tourism dashboard

The Yukon Sustainable Tourism framework includes a set of 17 key tourism elements that the government will measure and report on annually. We’re currently exploring ways to make this data more accessible. We’re in the procurement process to complete development. We plan to launch this dashboard this coming January.

Yukon Register of Historic places

The project team have been working on replacing the old register with a new one. The content is the same, but the platform is new and they are adopting the government’s branding. The team are aiming to have the public-facing piece of the registry out this winter.
