What we’re working on: winter 2023

eServices for Citizens write these quarterly updates about what public-facing digital services and websites the Government of Yukon is working on. For this update this includes websites and transactional services.

If you follow this blog you’ll see some projects listed might appear and reappear. The reason for this is that:

  • eServices might not have an active role;
  • the team might not have an update;
  • the project is on hold; or
  • the team decided not to proceed with the work.

Comment below or email eservices@yukon.ca if you have any questions about these projects.

Websites

Centralized recruitment marketing website

This will be a website for the government to promote positions in the public service. It will market life in the Yukon as well as the benefits of working for the government. The team have hired a developer and the project will kick off next week.

Indicators of Yukon Gender Equity

The project team is looking to publish their updated charts and graphs on Yukon.ca at the end of the month. You will be able to see them under the Statistics and data category and we'll include a link in our next update.

Our Clean Future website

This website will be 1 of the ways the government will communicate progress on its commitments to reduce negative impacts on the climate. It supports the government’s Our Clean Future Strategy.

The project team is testing the prototype and they are looking to launch the website this spring.

Yukon airports website

The Yukon airports website will have information for travellers and Yukon aviators. The project team are currently adding content to the website and will begin testing in the coming weeks.

Yukon.ca

As we approach year end we are working on a few things including:

  • finishing work on the last few items on our list of bugs and enhancements;
  • migrating the website to the newest version of Drupal; and
  • starting to plan out work for next year.

Get involved in user research and testing

We usually have a Yukon.ca user research project underway so we can continually learn from your experience and correct any barriers you encounter. If you want to participate, email eservices@yukon.ca.

Yukon Immunize website

We’re working to support the redesign and enhancement of the existing Yukon immunize website. Work is nearly done, and the new website is planned for launch this spring.

Yukon sustainable tourism dashboard

The Yukon Sustainable Tourism framework includes a set of 17 key tourism elements that the government will measure and report on annually. We’re currently exploring ways to make this data more accessible. The project team are working with a developer to build the dashboard and they are aiming to launch this spring.

Yukon Water Board website

We’re working to support the redesign and enhancement of the existing Yukon Water Board website. The project team are working on the site and anticipate launching it this spring.

Transactional services

We’re working with departments to deliver the following digital services.

Apply for the Yukon Dental Program

This is a new service to provide dental plan services to Yukoners who do not have dental insurance. We launched it earlier this month and you can access it through Yukon.ca.

Apply to immigrate to the Yukon

This is a service for people who want to immigrate to Canada and work in the Yukon. The team are currently working on building the service and they expect to launch this spring.

Citizen-centred service delivery

We’ve been working on a project to make short-term improvements to modernize how we manage government forms and other services. This includes internal processes, such as tracking project status and budgets. We have been investigating external-facing updates to how government forms are requested, updated, tracked and completed.

There are many thousands of forms and we’d like to get them online when feasible, and also modernize the work flows associated with forms. Protecting privacy, eliminating redundancy, increasing efficiency and improving accuracy are some of our goals for this work. Some new forms platforms and tools will begin roll-out during spring and summer 2023.

Government of Yukon photography archive

We are working with Tourism to migrate their photography archive to a cloud-based digital asset management system.

MyYukon (previously called: Improve online access to all government services)

We launched MyYukon earlier this month. This was a relatively low-key change to how people login to some existing digital services. Several other services will be added to MyYukon during upcoming months, and essentially any new government service in the future that will benefit from a login will be added to MyYukon.

MyYukon will, over time, grow beyond logins to include a broader set of functionalities. MyYukon is Yukon’s identity management program, and is aligned with federal initiatives and similar programs in other territories and provinces.

Online Marketplace

The Online Marketplace will be an inventory from the government’s authorized suppliers into 1 online storefront where government personnel can make purchases.

Implementation is ongoing, and the project team is conducting testing. A full launch is being scheduled for this spring.

Professional licensing and regulatory affairs (PLRA)

This is an existing service where Yukon professionals can apply for and renew their licences. We launched the service earlier this winter for the nursing. Later this February the project team are adding even more professional licenses to the lineup. You can access the list of professions on Yukon.ca.

Request a health record

This new digital service allows people to request their health records and information. The team has built a prototype and completed a Beta Service Maturity Assessment. Testing is completed and the team expects to launch in the coming months.

School bus scheduling and routing

Parents and guardians might not have noticed that the school bus scheduling software used by the government got a big upgrade in 2022. This new software made it easier to schedule buses, and brought some new tools to the people who schedule, drive, and manage school bus ridership.

More updates, including a new online system to register to take the bus, are under consideration for the next school year.

Student Financial Assistance

This is a major update to the online system that allows students to apply for financial assistance. We’re working with vendors to get the new system developed will be testing during upcoming months. This system is current scheduled to be in place this spring.

Yukon Sights and Sites mobile app

We are working on a new release of the Yukon Sights and Sites mobile app. This release has fixes and new highway features. The team is aiming to have this release available in time for the tourist season.

Yukon Walking Tours mobile app

We re-launched the Yukon Walking Tours app earlier this winter. You can get the app on iOS and Android.
