Lee O’Mara is one of two web architects with eServices for Citizens. He was the third person to join the team in 2017.
Time flies because he’s coming up on 10 years with the Government of Yukon! During this time Lee has become an expert at working with clients to execute the government’s service delivery process.
Lee works closely with many teams across the government working to deliver public-facing digital services. As a senior team member, he also plays a leadership role within the eServices team.
Life before eServices
Before joining eServices for Citizens, Lee worked with Kellett Communications, first in Yellowknife, then in Whitehorse. He was their web director for over 9 years.
Before Yellowknife, Lee lived in Toronto and Ottawa, where he did freelance web development as well as taught digital technology courses.
Like everyone working with eServices for Citizens, Lee is motivated by creating digital services that work for people. In fact, he has led much of the government’s implementation of MyYukon. This work started with establishing the program as a single-sign on and he’s looking to launch a MyYukon service interface in the coming months. He’s also working on verification.
Education
After failing to complete a degree at University of Guelph, Lee attended vocational training in digital publishing and new media development at Toronto Image Works. Later, he returned to teach there.
Since that time, Lee has completed a number of SCRUM, Agile and Lean courses, and also completed a diploma in Business Analysis from UBC.
Hobbies and adventure
When he isn’t in the office, Lee spends a lot of time outside. He enjoys activities like camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing and mountain-biking.
Family and roots
Lee is married with two children, who are all (except for him!) active in biathlon. Originally from Montreal, Lee has been in the Yukon since 2009.
Of course he has a dog
Lee and his family recently adopted a dog named Penny. She is a labrador cross, and she’s 3 years old.
Penny is the sweetest girl and we love it when she pops by the office for a little visit.
Awards and recognition
Soon after joining eServices, Lee was recognized for his role on the Yukon.ca website replacement project.
He received the 2019 Premier's Award of Excellence and Innovation in the Small team category for his role as part of the Online Cannabis Store Delivery Team.
In 2021 he was recognized by the Yukon Assembly (November 29).
Lee was awarded the 2022 Premier’s Award of Excellence and Innovation, small team category for COVID-19 Proof of Vaccination Online Service.
He also received the 2024 Premier’s Award of Excellence and Innovation, large team category for his role as part of the Yukon Parks Reservation System Project Team.
